Venice Beach, California

While I often sketched as a boy and began painting at age 12, my life as an artist began when I moved to Venice Beach, California.

As a kid growing up in Culver City, I visited Venice Beach in Summer.  The Boardwalk carnival freakshow scene dazzled me!  I never imagined I'd live in such a wild place.

As a young man of 24 I moved to Venice Beach where I lived and worked for 40 years. From 1979 to 2017, I taught myself to paint in a little Venice Canal adjacent studio.

You may view 40 years of my paintings and learn a bit about my life as a local artist by visiting my Venice Page.

A Colorful World of Wonder

When Frank Lloyd Wright said, "I believe in god, but I spell it nature," he described my Religion perfectly. I never resonated with the Baltimore Catechism concept of God taught in Catholic school. But one Summer vacation I saw milky ways shimmer beyond redwoods in Yosemite National Park. I was ready to worship every last star in the heavens.

As an artist, my mission is to capture the light, color, and spirit of nature. When I grabbed a crayon in first grade it was to glorify Mother Earth. In 50 years, I've painted a myriad of subjects. But I am most at home painting the land, sea, and sky.

I've never quite known how to categorize my work into tidy arrangments for official gallery displays. So, enjoy this collection of works celebrating the Blue Planet.
